Wild man, Big Foot, Sasquatch, Yeti – all of these terms are known worldwide and reflect what many currently believe to be a prehistoric bipedal hominid, who elusively roams unpopulated dense forests away from the human populous.
There have been thousands of eye witness accounts all across the United States of persons who have been fortunate enough to catch a glimpse of the strange creature - typically described as being bipedal standing over 8 feet tall, very large and muscular build, characteristically having long black or brown hair all over its body, and a face which resembles ape like features.
The legend of Big Foot is one that dates back to the Native American culture as early as pre 1870. Originating from British Columbia Canada, tales of indigenous natives have described a large man like creature, howling throughout the night, sometimes stealing their children right out of their camps and terrorizing the tribe’s people, they called it Sasquatch.
Historical descriptions by tribesman of the creature, often suggested that it returned during a certain time of the year near their native tribes - indicating the creature likely migrated throughout the seasons. It often was seen alone, however tribe’s people did in fact described small clans of the creatures and often heard the horrific howls of more than one. Many natives reported that the creature would often throw rocks at them while they canoed near shore banks close to their habitat and made large banging noises throughout the forest.
Sightings of the elusive Sasquatch have been reported throughout the U.S and Northern California. In fact Michael Rugg, proprietor of the Big Foot Discovery Museum, in Felton California of Santa Cruz County – proclaims that he has documented over 200 reports of the creature between Monterey and Half-moon Bay in the last 12 years.
Rugg opened the Big Foot Discovery Museum in 2004, located at 5497 Highway 9, in Felton. Fueled by passion from his own childhood experiences, of seeing what he believes to have been the elusive giant creature - Rugg dedicated much of his life’s work to researching the crypto zoological nature of the beast and opened his not for profit museum to the public. The museum is filled with educational material on the legends of Big Foot, along with plaster casts, videos of the famous Patterson footage and much, much more - The Big Foot Discovery Museum has been featured on Animal Planets, Finding Big Foot, and is a fun exploration of cryptozoology for the whole family!
